My Journey as a Social Worker in Politics

The Social Work Alumni Committee would like to invite you to 'My Journey as a Social Worker in Politics' happening virtually on Tuesday, January 31st, 2023, from 7:00-8:30pm.

Our panelists will be:

Nokha Dakroub who was elected as a Public-School Board Trustee for Wards 9 and 10 from 2014-2022. She increased support for special education, reduce busing distances, and fiercely advocated for the Ministry of Education to review to tackle systemic discrimination and anti-Black racism in public education, specifically PDSB.

Yvonne Kelly, MSW, ran federally for the NDP 3 times over the past 10 years. She has helped to organize the Affordable Housing Coalition of York Region to advocate for housing as a human right in York Region.

Veronica Javier, RSW, MSW., in the spring of 2022, she represented the Scarborough-Guildwood riding as their Ontario NDP Candidate. She advocated on issues affecting their community such as housing, healthcare and affordability.

Chiara Padovani MSW, ran for York South-Weston City Councillor in Toronto to build a fair and sustainable city. She founded the York South-Weston Tenant Union and advocated for improved public transit, living wages, and better environmental protections.
